Frequently asked questions.

What size is best for a rink?

Our rink has been a couple of sizes over the years. It is currently 88 feet long by 44 feet wide. In years past it has been 120 feet x 60 feet. Our smaller size has been much easier to maintain. No matter the size you choose, it will bring endless fun, memories, and outdoor exercise for the whole family.

Do you have to add LED lights Under the liner?

Yes, you want to add the lights before installing the liner. You will be able to see the glow well from underneath. The depth of your water does not seem to make a big difference on brightness, in our experience.

when do you fill the rink?

We usually wait until there is going to be 4+ consecutive days of freezing temperatures. The tough part is trying to figure out the best window where precipitation is not in the forecast to try to prevent slushy snow front accumulating when the rink is freezing.

how do you maintain the rink?

We use a shovel small snowblower, an ice resurfacer from NiceRink, and power broom for most maintenance. You want to try to remove snow quickly. Snow insulates the ice and slows freezing.
